node regular polygon edge

A regular polygon whose first side is the two points you give it.
Category: Primitives | Add menu: Primitives > Regular Polygon: Edge
Give it two points and a side count. The two points are one side of the polygon, not a center and a radius, and every other corner follows from them. The side length is the distance between the two points, and the polygon's orientation follows that side, so tilting the points tilts the shape.
The body is built on the same side of that edge as Square and Rectangle: Directed build theirs. Shapes you raise on one edge therefore land together rather than facing opposite ways.
- Corner 1 (point): one end of the first side.
- Corner 2 (point): the adjacent corner; the distance between the two is the side length.
- Sides (number, editable, default 6): how many sides the polygon has.
- Region (region): one polygon per pair of corners.
- Edges (curve): its sides, as separate curves, grouped per polygon.
- Points (point): its corners, grouped the same way.
The two corner lists pair index-for-index, the way every other two-point shape node pairs them, and Sides pairs alongside them or broadcasts a single value to all. A pair that cannot describe a side, because the two points sit on top of each other, contributes nothing at all rather than a guess.
Because Sides is a socket and not just a field, a list of counts gives you a family of polygons in one node: wire a Series of 3, 4, 5, 6 into it and you get a triangle, a square, a pentagon and a hexagon along the same run of edges.
The three outputs are three views of the same polygon, so you can build on whichever suits. Take Region to fill it or feed the booleans, Edges to work on its sides one at a time, Points to hang something on its corners.
They are the shape itself, not a record of how it was made. For what the polygon was built from, which is the two points and the side count, use Explode.
< Previous: Square | Next: Regular Polygon: Center >
- Regular Polygon: Center: the same shape sized from the middle instead of from a side.
- Square: the four-sided case, built the same way from one side.
- Explode: what the polygon was built from, rather than what it is.
