   Ray (tool)

A half-line from a start point through a second point.

A ray from a start point through a second point, with an arrowhead at the far end.

Menu: Draw > Ray | Node: Ray | In depth: Lines, rays & segments

Click the start point, then a second point to set the direction. A ray only registers crossings on the forward half, ahead of its start.

A half-line: it starts somewhere and carries on forever in one direction. Scaffolding rather than shape, there to be crossed or measured against.

The forward-only rule is the thing to watch. A ray ignores anything behind its start point, so if a crossing you expect does not appear, the geometry is probably behind the ray rather than ahead of it. Swap the two clicks to turn it round.
