Point on Ellipse node icon   Point on Ellipse (node)

A point on an ellipse at a parametric angle - given the ellipse's center and its two axis points.

Inputs

  • Center (point): the ellipse's center.
  • Major Axis (point): the endpoint of the major axis; it sets one radius and the ellipse's rotation.
  • Minor Axis (point): the endpoint of the minor axis; it sets the other radius.
  • Angle (number, editable): the parametric angle in radians.

Outputs

  • Point (point): the point at that angle on the ellipse. Point lists pair index-for-index.

Why the three points instead of a curve

An ellipse isn't carried as an analytic curve the way a segment or circle is, so a point can't simply ride it the way Point on Curve rides the others. Instead this node rebuilds the ellipse from its center and two axis points and returns the point at Angle - the same math the modeling view uses for a glider on an ellipse.

  • Ellipse: build the ellipse these axis points describe.
  • Convert to Nodes emits this for a glider on an ellipse or elliptical arc; Angle comes out as an outside Slider.
