   Alignment Snaps (command)

Dotted lines that show you are exactly level with a point already on the canvas.

A point being placed where two dotted lines cross: level with one point already on the canvas and in line with another, the first ringed to show it is being held as a reference.

Menu: View > Alignment Snaps | In depth: The canvas

A checkable toggle, off by default.

Move the cursor near the same height or the same column as an existing point and a dotted line appears through it. The cursor snaps onto that line, so you can place something exactly level with a point without constructing anything to do it.

Hold a point as a reference by resting the cursor on it for a moment. It stays a reference while you go and work elsewhere, and resting on it again lets it go.

It is remembered between sessions, so it never turns itself on under someone who has not asked for it.
