Segment node icon   Segment (node)

A finite edge between two points - wire a list of points against a single point for a list of segments.

A single shared point with a list of three points; a segment runs from the shared point to each list point - a fan of three segments.

Inputs

  • Start (point): the point the segment begins at.
  • End (point): the point the segment ends at.

Point lists pair index-for-index. Wire a list of points into one side and a single point into the other, and that single point is shared with every point on the list - one segment per list entry.

Outputs

  • Segment (curve): the finite straight edge between the two points - a single segment, or a list of segments when a list is wired in.

What it is for

A straight edge with two ends, the simplest thing in the graph that is a shape rather than a position.

Segments are the usual raw material: wire several into Region: Curves to make something fillable, into Offset to thicken them, or into Mark as Seam to tag a boundary. The pairing rule above is what makes a fan or a star easy, one point shared against a list of others.

Unlike a Line or a Ray, a segment stops where you put it, so it can bound a region.
