Important

Deprecated. This node is no longer in the menus. Use Explode, which answers for every shape and takes a group apart a layer at a time. Documents built with this node still open and still work.

Explode Ray (node)

A ray's origin and a point along it (Origin, Through).

A ray with its Origin and Through points extracted as point blue points.

A ray remembers the real second point it was drawn through, so Explode Ray returns that actual point - not a synthetic step one unit out along the ray's direction.

Note

The input socket is typed any (grey wildcard), not ray-specific - see Explode Segment for why the whole Explode family works this way.

Inputs

  • Ray (any): the ray to break apart.

Outputs

  • Origin (point): the ray's start point.
  • Through (point): a point along the ray's direction.

What it is for

Hands back the two points a ray was built from, so the graph can reuse its direction: draw a segment along the same line, build a parallel, or measure the angle it leaves at.

Both come out as matching lists, one entry per ray, so a fan of rays explodes at once.
