Modeling Menus

   Group (command)

Group selected objects into a folder in the Layers panel.

Three objects enclosed by a dashed group blue box, grouped into one.

Menu: Edit > Group | In depth: The Layers panel

Select the objects, then Group - they collapse into a single folder in the Layers panel that you can move, hide, or duplicate as a unit.

A group is housekeeping, not geometry. Nothing about the shapes changes and nothing new gets built. You get one row in the Layers panel instead of a dozen, and you can hide, show or lock the whole set from that one row. Cmd-G, or Ctrl-G on Windows, does the same thing from the keyboard.

It is a folder, not a dependency. Grouping ties nothing together, and groups can sit inside groups.

An object is in one group at a time. Adding it to another group moves it, taking it out of the group it was in before.
