Area node icon   Area (node)

The total enclosed area of the input regions - holes subtracted, arcs exact. The area twin of Length.

A region in region orange with a cut-out, its enclosed area read out as a number purple value in square millimeters.

Inputs

  • Geometry (any): the region geometry to measure.

Outputs

  • Area (number): the total enclosed area of the input regions, in square millimeters (mm2). (Node geometry is always in millimeters, so an area comes out in mm2.)

What Area measures

Area sums the enclosed area of every closed contour in the geometry, with exact handling for curves:

  • Holes subtract. A region with cut-outs reports its true material area: inner loops wind the opposite way and are removed from the total.
  • Arcs are exact. Arc-edged regions use real arc area, not a polygon approximation.
  • Open contours and loose points contribute nothing: only closed regions have an area.
