List Length node icon   List Length (node)

How many items a list/collection holds (each region, curve, point, or ray is one item, the same split Item at Index uses); feed it into a Random Max or an Array count.

A list of five neutral boxes numbered 1 to 5, with the count read out beneath them as a number purple value, length = 5.

Inputs

  • List (any): the list/collection to count.

Outputs

  • Count (number): how many items the list holds.

What it is for

Counts the items in a list, so the graph can react to how much geometry there is instead of you typing a number that goes stale.

An item is one region, curve, point or ray, the same split Item at Index uses. Points inside a group count with their member rather than on their own; see Lists & collections. The usual pairing is a count that feeds a Random Max or an Array count, so a pattern resizes itself when the geometry upstream changes.
