Menu: Edit > Detach | In depth: Duplicate, detach & ownership
Detach copies the selection's defining points to brand-new free points, cutting the link to whatever they were built on, leaving an object that stands on its own.
Use it when the scaffolding has done its job: Detach frees the object so the construction underneath can be deleted and the object survives unchanged. It frees what is there rather than making a copy, which is where it differs from Duplicate.
