   Show Grid (command)

Draw the background world grid.

Menu: View > Show Grid | In depth: The canvas

A checkable toggle, on by default.

The grid is drawing paper, not geometry. It is there to judge distance and keep work square by eye, and nothing ever snaps to it: points snap to other points, to intersections, to objects and to guides, never to a grid line.

It is drawn in world units, so it rescales as you zoom and always reads at a usable spacing. Turn it off when a pattern gets dense enough that the grid competes with the artwork.
