edit cut spline

Open a closed spline at the selected anchor, or split an open one in two.

Important
Under construction. Splines are new and this page describes work in progress. Nothing here is a promise about the finished feature.
Open the spline for editing, select exactly one anchor, and cut there. One anchor, not a set: a cut is a place.
- A closed spline opens at that anchor.
- An open one becomes two pieces, both still inside the same object.
The geometry does not move. The anchor you cut at is about to become an end, and an end takes its curve from one neighbor rather than two, so the app freezes that anchor's handles where they already resolve. Without that the two spans either side of the cut would change shape on a click that promised to move nothing.
Cutting at an end of an open spline is refused: there is nothing on one side of it to separate.
There is no scissors tool, and that is why. To cut between two anchors, insert an anchor there first with the Pen, which does not move the curve, then cut at it.
- Splines: anchors, handles, spans and pieces.
- Close Spline: the other direction.
- The Pen: inserting the anchor you want to cut at.
- Selecting objects: selecting one anchor, and deleting a whole piece.
