Skills: names and numbers

Home · Catalogues · API by task

UO.UseSkill · UO.SkillVal · UO.GetSkillValue · UO.GetSkillCurrentValue · UO.SetSkillLockState

Below ALL 52 is the name of the built-in dictionary UseSkill/SkillVal. This is not a list of all skills that an arbitrary server can send to a client. GetSkillValue/GetSkillCurrentValue/GetSkillCap are searched by the loaded Skill.Name or index from scratch: there may be additional skills there. In particular, the presence of the Bushido/Mysticism school in the Cast catalog does not add the string of the same name to the UseSkill dictionary.

Names UseSkill are compared in a case-insensitive manner, but without automatic underscore replacement or whitespace trimming. Write the exact name from the table in quotes. Internal ID with one is shown to explain the protocol; the index from zero refers to GetSkillValue and its family. Do not interchange these numbers between command families.

The name of a skill does not guarantee that it can be activated with a button. For example, Hiding is launched via UseSkill, Magery is cast via Cast, and Mining usually requires a tool and a target. Gaining a skill value does not in itself train it. The rules of use are set by the server.

Name difference

The built-in dictionary stores Item ID, Enticement, Evaluate Intelligence, Bowcraft, Magic Resistance. The uploaded data may call them Item Identification, Discordance, Evaluating Intelligence, Bowcraft/Fletching, Resisting Spells. For reading, you can specify the corresponding standard index 3, 15, 16, 8, 26 if the server preserves the standard order. For UseSkill use exactly the row from the table. Stealth in this table is the game's stealth movement skill.

Complete examples

Run Hiding rather than read its value

Hiding is the name of the skill, 1000 is the delay of the example. UseSkill=1 means an accepted request, Hidden=1 is a hidden flag already received by the client. These are different checks.

Block growth of a known skill after a threshold

Mining selects the loaded skill; 100.0—threshold without modifiers, 2—blocking mode. This command changes the growth setting rather than using the pickaxe.

Compare boosted and base value by index

GetSkillValue and GetSkillCurrentValue return regular scores, such as 95.1. SkillVal uses whole number tenths: 951. Don't compare them to the same threshold without conversion.
